Discover the Douro Valley in a way that combines wine, landscapes, heritage and authentic local experiences. Over three days, travel privately from Porto into the Douro, stay overnight in Armamar and experience the region through its vineyards, river and historic railway.

From the wines of Lavradores de Feitoria and Quinta da Pacheca to the historic towns of Lamego and Régua, this journey brings together the cultural and natural highlights of the Douro — with private transportation, an accompanying guide and carefully selected experiences throughout.

This itinerary is your starting point, not a fixed group tour. Because this is a private journey, the pace can be adapted to your interests, the timing of visits and the experiences you want to enjoy along the way.

DAY 1 — PORTO / VILA REAL / SABROSA / LAMEGO / ARMAMAR

Wine, river landscapes & the heritage of the Douro

Your private journey begins with pickup at your hotel in Porto/Gaia and departure toward Vila Real and Sabrosa, one of the traditional gateways to the Douro Demarcated Wine Region.

In Sabrosa, visit Lavradores de Feitoria, discovering wines that express the freshness, elegance and distinctive character of the Douro. After the tasting, continue to the river for a private boat experience on the Douro, accompanied by a regional tapas-style lunch served on board.

In the afternoon, continue toward Lamego, one of the historic cities of northern Portugal and a city deeply connected to the cultural identity of the Douro region. Visit the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, the Cathedral and the Moorish Castle before continuing to Armamar.

Arrival at your hotel or quinta in Armamar, check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Armamar.

DAY 2 — ARMAMAR / RÉGUA / HISTORIC TRAIN / TUA / VILA REAL / PORTO

Wine traditions & a journey back in time

After breakfast, continue to Quinta da Pacheca, where the history, landscape and traditions of Douro wine come together. The guided visit and wine tasting offer an opportunity to discover the estate and experience the character of one of the region's most recognized wine destinations.

Continue to Régua, the historic center of the Douro wine trade. After free time for lunch, head to Régua railway station for the Douro Historic Train.

Travel along the Douro Line toward Tua and back to Régua, surrounded by vineyards, terraces and dramatic river landscapes. The Historic Train is designed as a journey back in time, with historic carriages and the atmosphere of Portugal's traditional railway heritage. For the 2026 season, the historic service is operating with a classic diesel locomotive from the 1960s rather than the previously planned steam locomotive.
Return to Porto via Vila Real.

Historic Train availability: the service operates on Saturdays and Sundays from June 6 to October 18, with additional Wednesday departures from July 22 to September 30. Tuesday departures therefore require an alternative program or prior confirmation. Overnight in Porto.

DAY 3 — PORTO

The Invicta city, the Douro and Port wine

After breakfast, your private journey continues through Porto, Portugal's celebrated northern capital and the city where the Douro reaches the Atlantic.

Discover the city's characteristic avenues, squares and historic quarters, including Praça da Liberdade, the Castelo do Queijo, São Francisco Church with its extraordinary gilded interior and catacombs, and the traditional Ribeira district.

Continue with a boat trip toward the mouth of the Douro and finish with a visit to the Port Wine Cellars, connecting the city with the wine tradition that shaped the Douro region.

Enjoy free time for lunch and the afternoon before your private transfer back to your hotel.
